Rapid City, S.D.
My name is Maegan McPherson and I have been owner and editor of Today’s Horse Magazine for over 5 years now. I was born in Rapid City, but grew up in Martin, SD. After high school I moved out to the Black Hills Area and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Business with Specializations in Marketing, Entrepreneurial Studies, and Management. After college I used my degree to purchase Today’s Horse Magazine, which is a regional publication here in the Midwest, targeting anything and everything horse related. My passion has always been horses, so getting involved in the horse industry from a management/marketing standpoint has been very beneficial and an awesome experience.
My other passion is music and for a fun side job, I started a business called Uncorked Entertainment, a complete DJ service, where I mostly DJ weddings and special parties by word of mouth. I’ve competed in many singing competitions in my younger years, even trying out for American Idol. I’ve sang the national anthem at big events in Las Vegas and I still sing the national anthem occasionally for events around our area. The DJ company allows me to make money doing what I love to do, playing music and singing, and even though it’s a job it doesn’t feel like one, and I consider it my relaxation time.
After getting married last fall, there has not been much time to relax since I married a go getter like myself. My husband Michael, our son Cash and I, own a ranch and feedlot east and north of Rapid City, where we run cattle and horses. We also own a fencing/construction company that Michael runs. With horses both being a passion of ours, we spend any free time we have rodeoing or going to roping jackpots. I barrel race and team rope, and my husband calf ropes and team ropes, and we even team rope together! We don’t have much time to just relax, watch TV or movies, read a good book, or do much of what we love, but I’m looking forward to the opportunities this publication can provide my family and I in the future.

I was raised on a ranch north of Chamberlain, S.D. Being actively involved in the horse industry and rodeo was a way of life for me and my family. I participated in 4-H and high school rodeo, where I competed in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping and team roping. After high school, I continued my education on a rodeo scholarship to Oklahoma Panhandle State University were I pursued a degree in Agricultural Business. After college, I returned to South Dakota where I continue to rodeo at the amateur and pro levels, attending jackpots when time allows. I am excited to be a new employee for Today’s Horse Magazine and would love to assist you and your business with any advertising needs.
