My name is Maegan Scherer, and I am proud to say that I am the new owner of Today’s Horse Magazine. I grew up on a ranch east of Martin, S.D., and have been involved with horses ever since I can remember. I now make my home in Rapid, SD. Hard work and never giving up was instilled in me since I was a child. I was involved in 4-H, from being a teen leader and holding offices in my 4-H club, to competing in horse and cattle shows. I also rodeoed all through grade school and high school competing in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway and team roping. I still compete in local jackpots and the South Dakota Rodeo Association where I run barrels and rope.

After high school, I attended Black Hills State University where I earned a triple major in Business Administration with emphasis in Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Management. After college in May 2012, I worked in sales and collections before deciding to do some real estate investing out in Las Vegas, NV for the winter. Not really knowing exactly what I wanted to do, I was offered the opportunity to buy Today’s Horse and I knew the magazine needed work, but I knew I had enough ambition and a passion for the industry to take on this challenge. I believe I am the perfect fit to bring new, creative ideas that will help Today’s Horse Magazine reach new heights. I’m excited to make changes for the better, and I couldn’t ask for a better team of employees and columnists to make this publication one of the top in the industry.  Feel free to contact me with any advertising questions or any suggestions as well.

Chamberlain, S.D.

I was raised on a ranch north of Chamberlain, S.D. Being actively involved in the horse industry and rodeo was a way of life for me and my family. I participated in 4-H and high school rodeo, where I competed in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping and team roping.  After high school, I continued my education on a rodeo scholarship to Oklahoma Panhandle State University were I pursued a degree in Agricultural Business.  After college, I returned to South Dakota where I continue to rodeo at the amateur and pro levels, attending jackpots when time allows. I am excited to be a new employee for Today’s Horse Magazine and would love to assist you and your business with any advertising needs.

Howdy! It’s a pleasure to introduce myself to all of you. Born and raised a Nebraskan I have spent most of my life in the business community and retired from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission a couple years ago. While employed by NGPC I served as Nebraska’s first Recreational Trails Administrator assisting in the development of recreational trails and working extensively with hikers, bikers and horseback riders across the state. I was promoted to Northwest Regional Manager of the Parks Division in 2000 and was stationed at Fort Robinson State Park in Western Nebraska. Many of you are probably familiar with Fort Robinson and know that it was a huge horse training facility during the war years. Presently the 22,000 acre park serves as a go to destination for many equestrian enthusiasts from across the country. Today, along with my passion for developing good trail and recreational horses, I serve as a Recreational Advisor for the American Quarter Horse Ass’n and as a member of the AQHA Recreational Program Committee. I spend a lot of time facilitating trail rides, workshops and clinics centered on building partnerships through recreational riding and the AQHA Trail Challenge program. The latter of which was recently indorsed by the University of Nebraska Extension Service for the State’s 4H Equine Program, a great program that encompasses all breeds of the equine world. I also serve on the Nebraska Quarter Horse Board and as that association’s Recreational Committee Chair. I, along with the rest of the team at Today’s Horse, look forward to serving your marketing needs, as well as providing you with a wide array of educational, informative and interesting articles. If I can be of service with your advertising program please give me a call, or if you have a hot tip on a good story don’t hesitate to do the same.
